Open Blog now available in Softaculous

From today Open Blog is also available in Softaculous auto installer.

If you don't know what Softaculous is, here is a short quote from their website:

Softaculous is an auto installer for cPanel and DirectAdmin. Unlike other auto installers Softaculous is much faster, well designed and installs softwares in just ONE STEP.

This means, that if you use Softaculous you could get Open Blog up and running in a matter of seconds with just one mouse click (now, how cool is that?).

Oh, and if you like Open Blog, please vote for it.

Thanks to the forum member Senic, Open Blog is now also available in French (English, Slovene and Spanish languages are already included in the default installation).

From today on, Open Blog has an official forum which can be found here.

The forum is meant to be used as a meeting place for all Open Blog users and as a place where you can quickly find support and other development information about Open Blog.

So head over to the forum and register and show us your blog, post your suggestions / feature requests or just talk about general every day stuff.

Open Blog 1.2.1 security update

This update addresses a series of XSS vulnerabilities in Open Blog 1.2.0.

The problems arose because global XSS filtering was disabled in Open Blog 1.2.0 and because of the rush to release Open Blog 1.2.0 on time, I forgot to sanitize some of the variables.

The changelog which lists all the files that were changed is available here.

Thanks to Gašper Kozak for spotting this vulnerability and notifying me.

If you are running Open Blog 1.2.0, download this package which includes the changed files, unpack it, go to the OpenBlog_1.2.0_to_1.2.1/ folder and upload the files from this folder to your blog root directory.

Notice: Older versions are not affected by this vulnerability.

Open Blog 1.2.0 released

After a few weeks of work I'm happy to announce that Open Blog 1.2.0 is finally here.

Due to a lack of free time and short timeframe some major features were left out and are moved to the next release (Open Blog 1.3.0), but don't feel disappointed since this release still introduces many new and cool features (among small bug fixes of course)!

Here is just a short list of some of them:

- Mobile / PDA version of Open Blog - a special version made to be viewed on your mobile phone or PDA
- iPhone version of Open Blog - a special version made to be viewed on your iPhone or iPod Touch
- Admin panel tooltips - making admin panel even more easy and friendly to use
- Automatic user agent recognition - Open Blog can automatically detect if you are viewing the blog from a mobile phone, PDA, iPhone or iPod Touch
- Wordpress migrator - migrating from Wordpress with just a few clicks (currently it has been only tested with Wordpress 2.7)
- Captcha for guests - this prevents spam bots from flooding your blog
- Multiple categories support - a single post can be in an unlimited number of categories
- Post tags - now you can tag your post with an unlimited number of tags
- Post publish date - you can set the post publish date in the feature and the post won't be visible until this date
- Sticky posts - sticky posts are always displayed first
